New broadsides!

We’ve been busy! Here are 4 new broadsides we have finished this week, just in time for Home County Music and Art Festival in our old stomping grounds of London, Ontario. If you can’t catch us at the festival, these will soon be available in our studio shop and here on the website.

Type collecting

We have added some great finds to our type collection in the past few weeks! We recently visited the home studio of one of the proprietors of Morgan Press, a small press in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and purchased some of their type and ornaments:

And our friend Nicole of Frontière Farm House picked us up a fun mixed basket of old wood type:

Type sorting

We’re still sorting out the cabinet full of type that came from The Voice of Canadian Serbs, a community newspaper that was once produced on Drouillard Road here in Windsor. This is a fun one, and we have quite a lot of it:

Letterpress workshop

Today we had a group from the University of Windsor’s Leddy Library in the studio for a group letterpress session in which they designed and printed a collaborative broadside. Everyone had a blast and they made some great posters!

This is a fun class we’ve done quite a few times now with different groups. If you have a group of friends or colleagues who would love a fun, creative outing together, give the studio a ring and we’ll be happy to help you make it happen!

Letterpress postcards

Here’s a look at a few of the hundreds of postcards we’ve printed this week. Since it’s not possible to show them all, we made a video:

Today in the studio

Some fun new letterpress cards using one of the old newspaper images given to us by a friend of Levigator Press.

Our new press!

This weekend we closed the studio and drove up to Oshawa to pick up this gorgeous beast:

It’s a 6.5×10 Chandler & Price Pilot, fully refurbished, in beautiful condition, and ready to be put to work. It’s a perfect press for our tiny space, with the capability to handle large scale production while being user friendly and a fantastic learning press for our students and studio members. We can’t wait to fire it up and get printing.
