New cards!

We just finished these two fun new greeting card designs with linocut banners on screenprinted backgrounds. They’re available now in the studio shop!

Reductive woodcut

One of our studio members was here today putting the third colour on her woodcut prints. One more layer to go!

Introducing: Open studio at Levigator Press

openstudio

We’re trying something new this spring: open studio sessions! It’s a chance for people who don’t need much help in the studio, and those who might need just a little guidance, to print in a relaxed group atmosphere at a slightly lower cost than booking press time or private instruction. You pay a flat rate, the equivalent of two hours of press rental, for a three hour evening session to work on your projects.

You’ll still need to register in advance as you would for a class, as space will be very limited. Some of our presses can only accommodate one person per session, and if what you want to use has already been booked then you may have to wait for the next session. We’ll do our best to accommodate you but we promise we won’t crowd you either!

Open Studio participants may use the following studio areas:

-silkscreen coating area, screen exposure unit, and washout booth
-screen printing tables (can accommodate up to four printers at this time)
-Nolan proof press (for letterpress or block printing; one user per session)
-Adana platen press (one user per session)
-intaglio press (one user per session)
-C&P paper shear, nipping press, and other bindery equipment
-clean table surface for preparing paper
-large light table for preparing transparencies
*Wood shop power tools and our Janome serger may also be used with demonstration of expertise (at our discretion)

You must bring your own materials. A limited amount of materials (paper, screen print ink, some bookbinding supplies) may be purchased in the studio. One-time-use quantities of harder to access supplies such as screenprint emulsion, etching ink, and letterpress ink are available for a small additional fee.

You can view upcoming Open Studio dates by clicking on the Open Studio events category link.

A busy printing day

Today was all about the linocuts in the Levigator Press studio. Our studio member Jennie was in pulling editions of a few of her Dashing Critters:

You can find Jennie and her lovely work at the Ford City Night Market, starting on May 5! Check out more of her work here: Jennie Nunweiler Art on Instagram

Later we had a new student in printing an edition from her first lino block:

Meanwhile, I was carving away on this:

Today in the studio

Yesterday I finished building a new table for screenprinting, which now sits right next to the drying rack to make it easier to print quickly. Today I christened it by laying down the third colour (black) on these pretty frames, which will soon house greyscale portraits of Surprise Party In The Snow characters:

Happy birthday to us!

ready

Levigator Press opened its doors one year ago today! Thanks so much to all of our amazing friends who helped us to get this far.

No festivities today, but join us this Saturday, March 19 from 1-4pm for a free colouring party and snacks! We’ll have some new colouring pages made up to give away, and you can use our stuff or bring your own!

Today in the studio

Here’s a fun set of fancy screenprinted frames I just printed the third colour on. They’re for an upcoming show in June, and will have formal portraits of some characters from Surprise Party In The Snow in them. These are printed in four different colourways and there will be three more different frame designs, so, lots of variations!
