SUMMARY:MEND series #1: darning
DESCRIPTION:Our MEND series focuses on basic hand sewing skills for repairing and improving your clothing and textiles. We will cover a different technique each week to help you give new life to your beloved\, damaged items\, ranging from simple repairs to decorative flourishes. \nIn this first instalment of MEND\, you will learn how to do that most mysterious and magical of repairs: darning a hole. Darning involves weaving a new layer of fabric into an empty space\, and can either be worked to blend seamlessly or made to deliberately contrast for decorative effect. \nNo sewing experience is necessary. \nFabric swatches and thread will be provided for you to practice on\, but if you have a piece of clothing with a hole in it\, you’re welcome to bring it along to work on. If you choose to bring an item\, you may want to also bring a matching thread. \nOptional: if you have a darning egg\, bring it along! Or a wooden ball such as a croquet ball works nicely. Even a plastic Easter egg will work in a pinch. Don’t worry if you don’t have any of these thing though; you can use ours! \nThe MEND series will run every other Sunday afternoon and will focus on a different technique each time. You may take them all\, or just a few\, or just one\, but if you register for two or more at once you’ll get $5 off the cost of each individual class (so\, a single class is $20\, but two classes will be $30\, three classes $45). \nLimited to 12 participants.
