SUMMARY:Sock knitting
DESCRIPTION:In this class\, designed for the beginning-to-intermediate knitter\, you will learn all of the techniques you’ll need to knit yourself a comfortable and well-fitted pair of socks. Students should be familiar with the knit and purl stitches and some basic decreases\, and we’ll show you the rest. Some experience working at small gauges is an asset\, but not necessary. \nThis class runs for four weeks on Monday nights\, November 16\, 23\, 30\, and December 7\, from 7 to 9 pm. \nYou will receive a sock pattern that can be customized to fit a variety of feet\, and we will work through the project together\, learning each new technique as we need it. \nYou will learn how to: knit in the round on double-pointed needles; make ribbing; pick up and knit stitches; work short-row shaping; make left- and right-sloping decreases; graft stitches (Kitchener stitch). You’ll also learn a special method of casting on that creates a sturdy yet stretchy edging\, appropriate for a sock cuff. \nMATERIALS FOR THIS CLASS ARE NOT PROVIDED. You will need: one set of 5 double-pointed needles sized from 2mm to 2.5mm (please note this is the metric size\, NOT US size 2); 100 grams of sock weight yarn.  If you are unsure of what kind of yarn to buy\, or where to get sock yarn\, please don’t hesitate to ask us! We’ll happily direct you to some of our favourite yarn sources. Please note that pale or bright colours are much easier to learn new techniques with than very dark colours. \nLimited to 6 participants.
