Overheard in a restaurant on Xmas Eve: two hip young boys with requisite moustaches and Buddy Holly frames, back home from their first semester away at university, marvelling at how sometimes people aren’t as easy to pigeonhole as they thought.
I sound super mean, I know. So I’d like to add: for years I used to employ the phrase “like a banshee” for EVERYTHING but stopped because I got sick of my friends always saying “what you mean, while screaming?” or “banshees don’t do X (pump iron, jump around, hock loogies, deliver body checks into the boards or whatever else I just said someone did like a banshee), they only SCREAM”. So I appreciate that Moustache Boy thinks people can smoke like a banshee. Because anything can be done like a banshee if it’s done with gusto. In my opinion.
