Guest instructor Peter Olsen brings his comprehensive overview of basic calligraphy skills to Levigator Press in this fun class. Over the course of three weeks you will learn the basics of handling a calligraphy pen and practice a variety of letter styles including Upper and Lower Gothic, Book Hand, and Chancery Cursive. We will also touch briefly on methods of manuscript illumination.
This class runs for three weeks on Tuesday evenings, June 2, 9, and 16, from 7:00 to 9:30pm.
Materials you will need for this class:
-your own pen holder and nib: the instructor recommends a C-0 or C-1 Speedball nib and a Speedball pen holder (if you’re left handed, be sure to get a left-handed nib). There will be a limited number of right-and left-handed nibs that you may purchase in class (contact us for availability);
-your own bottle of ink so that you can practice outside class. The instructor recommends Sheaffer “Skrip” ink, but any black calligraphy ink will do;
-a 3b pencil and a Mars plastic eraser (or other white plastic eraser);
-a pad of any type of 8.5 by 11″ cartridge paper.
Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions about where to find these supplies. We’re happy to help!
You may wish to have your own felt-tip markers and pencil crayons as well, but these things will be available in the studio for your use during class time.
Limited to 12 participants. To secure your spot in the class, a non-refundable deposit of 30% is required. Register in person at Levigator Press or call 519-991-4972.
Class prices are subject to HST.
