In this four week intensive class you will learn the basics of typesetting and letterpress printing and simple one-or two-section pamphlet bookbinding. You will then design and print your own edition of ten small zines or chapbooks.
This class runs for four weeks on Saturday afternoons, March 4, 11, 18, and 25, from 1-4pm. No printing or bookbinding experience is necessary, and all materials are provided (including paper and cover material for ten booklets up to ten printed pages each).
You should come to class prepared with an idea and some text, as we will be jumping right into typesetting on the first day. We have a fair selection of metal and wood typefaces and printer’s ornaments, but if you have a project in mind that is text-heavy or requires custom artwork, please consult with us in advance in case you need to consider having letterpress polymer plates made (not included in the class price).
