Collagraph prints (2-week class)
Collagraph is a printmaking method in which a collage is constructed onto a heavy card using paper, glue, and sand or grit, and then used as a matrix for printing. It’s a satisfyingly tactile way to create a printing plate, and textures as subtle as simple torn or cut pieces of paper can achieve beautifully rich and varied printed marks. In the first week we will focus on creating the plate, and in the second week you will learn how to ink and press your plate and will make an edition of at least four prints.
This class runs for two weeks on Wednesday afternoons, February 1 and 8, from 1 to 4pm.
All materials are provided, including paper. No printmaking experience is necessary. This is an easy and fun introduction to printmaking, particularly for people who enjoy working in collage or cut paper.

Reductive woodcut is a full colour printing method in which each successive layer of colour is carved and printed from a single sheet of wood. In this four-session class you will design and create an edition of six woodblock prints using up to four separate colours. This is a fast paced class and we will get right into carving our blocks on the first day, so you should come prepared with an idea or a drawing for an 8×10 inch block.
This class runs Monday evenings for four weeks: February 6, 13, 20, and 27, from 6:30-9:30pm.
No printmaking experience is necessary.

In this two week class you will practice advanced techniques to create monotype effects in colour woodcut printing. You will prepare one woodblock with minimal carving in order to practice various printing methods including selective inking with and without stencils, gradients, scumbling with hands and other objects, ghost printing, and incorporating found objects. Letterpress zines & chapbooks (4-week class)
In this four week intensive class you will learn the basics of typesetting and letterpress printing and simple one-or two-section pamphlet bookbinding. You will then design and print your own edition of ten small zines or chapbooks. This class runs for four weeks on Saturday afternoons, March 4, 11, 18, and 25, from 1-4pm. In this class you will learn how to make tiny lidded boxes for all of your precious little objects. We will cover measuring and planning your box, building the box parts, and covering the box with decorative paper. No experience is necessary.
This class runs for two weeks on Monday evenings, March 6 and 13, from 6:30-9:30pm.
Please bring a small object no larger than 2 inches in any dimension, and you will take it home inside a finished custom wee box! All materials are provided.

Find out more »Bookbinding: Longstitch 1
In this simplest form of Longstitch binding, folded sections of pages are sewn together by linking the sections through a slotted cover sheet to create a pleasing staggered exposed sewing along the spine. Stitching wrapped around the head and foot of the paper spine gives the beaded look of a thread headband at the edge of the spine. We will finish off our books with a decorative folded paper slipcover.
All materials are provided. No previous bookbinding experience is necessary.
