Bookbinding class

Sometimes I get so caught up in teaching a class that I forget to take photos. That’s what happened in tonight’s fun Coptic Bookbinding class, so you don’t get to see the final results! Here are a few shots of student books in progress, though:

Link sketchbook/scrapbooks

copticjournals

We had an order for some of these large Coptic link stitch sketchbooks, and made a few extra for the shop. They’re 8.5 by 11 inches with 96 pages (48 leaves) of heavy weight paper suitable for drawing, collage, or for holding photos. The books will lie flat when open. There are only three, so drop in soon if you want one!

Hard cover stab bookbinding class

Here are a few images of our most recent session of our two-week Hardcover Stab Bookbinding class. These books are approximately 8.5 by 6 inches, with hinged covers of library buckram book cloth and block printed end papers.

Hard Cover Stab Binding class

Some images from tonight’s bookbinding class. Last week the students built and wrapped their covers and prepped their text blocks, and this week they drilled the sewing holes and completed the bindings.

Studio news: CBBAG Bookbinding 1 course

We’ve just confirmed that Levigator Press will be hosting master bookbinder Dan Mezza of London, ON, to teach the Canadian Bookbinders and Book Artists Guild course, Bookbinding 1 in October 2015. This is a 6-day, intensive course that will get you on the road to serious bookbinding and book preservation, and it is a prerequisite for taking further CBBAG courses. We’re delighted to be able to offer this high quality course in Windsor.

More details to come, but for now you can contact us if you’re interested and we’ll put you on a mailing list so you’ll get updates as they happen. The course will run for three consecutive weekends, 9am to 4pm Saturday and Sunday, on the following dates: October 17 & 18, October 24 & 25, and October 31 & November 1. You’ll register for the course through CBBAG rather than through Levigator Press, and will be required to take out a CBBAG membership in order to take the course. We’ll fill you in on more of those details later but in the meantime, mark your calendars!

Quick Coptic class

copticleesa

Our friend Leesa dropped in today for an impromptu lesson in the simple one-needle Coptic bookbinding stitch. Now she’s going to go forth and teach it to her own students. Spreading the love!

New notebook line in the shop

Just put the finishing touches on these rad new dinosaur notebooks, featuring linoblock portraits of a few toy dinos from our collection:

We’ve also got a new line of greeting cards in the shop featuring these fearsome dudes. I’ve cut a second block to add some colour and will be printing multicolour dinos this week. Thinking about printing them on some t-shirts too!

Hardcover stab binding class

Just look at this beautiful student book, created over two sessions in our most recent bookbinding class. Cover boards are wrapped in decorative endpapers cut from old copies of the Golden Home and High School Encyclopedia, and the binding was done in the hemp leaf pattern.
