Block printing on fabric class

We had another fun session of our most popular class last night. I’m always amazed at what people come up with, combining our wood and lino blocks into designs we would never think of. Here are some action shots:

Lino block class part 2

Michelle came in yesterday and pulled a first proof from her lino block. She’s going to clear out some of the chatter in the sky and make it more controlled, and make a few other minor changes, but it’s looking good so far!

Rat King broadsides

Our new Rat King broadsides are printed!

Here’s an oblique shot of the precarious lockup, achieved with hope and luck and many tiny pieces of rolled up paper and mat board:

We printed some on white and some on orange:

Broadsides are 11×17″, printed on French Paper (colours: Sweet Tooth and Orange Fizz). You can get them by dropping by the studio, or wait a few days until we get them listed in the Levigator Press Etsy shop!

Linoblock printing

Monica came by today to do some cutting and pull some proofs from her lino block in progress. Her image is fairly minimal linework with some nice chatter marks for texture, and she’s planning to hand colour the resulting prints.

Hard Cover Stab Binding class

Some images from tonight’s bookbinding class. Last week the students built and wrapped their covers and prepped their text blocks, and this week they drilled the sewing holes and completed the bindings.

Private instruction

invitation

Today we had a private instruction session with some fun folks who wanted to print their own letterpress wedding invitations. They had a plate made (from a design created for them by Angie of Kindred Custom Snowboards) and, after a quick lesson, did all of the printing themselves. This couple enjoys sailing together, and their invitation has a nautical theme, printed in deep blue ink on Cranes Lettra paper. They did an amazing job!

This is the beginning of a fun collaboration I’m doing with Dayna Wagner of The Pottery Cupboard. I did some drawings on a series of still-wet cups and bowls, to which she’ll add underglaze colour. This new line of pottery, along with some fun pieces Dayna is making in collaboration with Nicole Drouillard of Mercantile 519, will be debuted during the Windsor Essex Studio Tour on October 3 and 4. We’re super excited to show it to you!

Just added: Sew a messenger bag class!

Our class schedule for September and October is pretty much full, but we’ve squeezed in one more fun one: Christine Chenier of Saint Flamingo will be bringing us her Messenger Bag class once again! Class details are here: SEW A MESSENGER BAG

Since this is a late addition, we’re offering a limited time 15% discount on this class if you sign up before the end of this weekend. To get the special price you must register, with a 30% deposit, by Sunday, September 13 at 10:00pm. We’re open Friday from 11 to 5 and Saturday 11 to 6; we’re closed Sunday, but you can still register by sending an e-transfer payment to print@levigatorpress.ca. Or give us a call!

How-To Festival at Windsor Public Library, Nikola Budimir branch

This Saturday I’ll be taking part in this fun event: Windsor Public Library How-To Festival. It’s an opportunity to learn some nifty and valuable new skills in under ten minutes (each).

I’ll be showing people how to sew on a button, including how to make a thread shank under a flat button, and tricks for making sure your buttons stay put forever!

The event runs from 11 to 3. The Levigator Press shop will still be open during that time, and I’ll be back in the shop from 3:30 to 6.

New fall hours!

newsnow3

The beginning of September and a new school year always brings about a whiff of change: new schedules, new routines, new plans. Levigator Press has been open for six months now, and we’ve had some time to get a sense of the ebb and flow of our neighbourhood. Starting this week, we will no longer be open on Sundays, and we will now be open on Tuesdays. We’ve found that you, our lovely customers and students, tend to seek us out more during the week than on weekends, so it makes more sense for us to be open more weekdays.

Our new hours:

Monday: closed
Tuesday: 11-5
Wednesday: 11-5
Thursday: 2-8
Friday: 11-5
Saturday: 11-6
Sunday: closed
