New four colour screenprint, just finished, and available now in our studio shop:

Last week our co-op student Aiyana finished off her second longstitch binding with some pretty weaving through the exposed stitches.

This weekend we took part in Events in the Manor, a fun free exhibit of Art in the Park. Here’s our set-up in the dining room of historic Willistead Manor, ready to demonstrate bookbinding for the public:

It’s more fun doing a demo by teaching somebody, so local artist Julie Bell came by to help out and learned a Japanese stab binding:

Letterpress posters for next week’s Surprise Party In The Snow exhibition!

One of our studio members was here today putting the third colour on her woodcut prints. One more layer to go!

Today we had a student in the studio making some lovely monotypes:

We’re trying something new this spring: open studio sessions! It’s a chance for people who don’t need much help in the studio, and those who might need just a little guidance, to print in a relaxed group atmosphere at a slightly lower cost than booking press time or private instruction. You pay a flat rate, the equivalent of two hours of press rental, for a three hour evening session to work on your projects.
You’ll still need to register in advance as you would for a class, as space will be very limited. Some of our presses can only accommodate one person per session, and if what you want to use has already been booked then you may have to wait for the next session. We’ll do our best to accommodate you but we promise we won’t crowd you either!
Open Studio participants may use the following studio areas:
-silkscreen coating area, screen exposure unit, and washout booth
-screen printing tables (can accommodate up to four printers at this time)
-Nolan proof press (for letterpress or block printing; one user per session)
-Adana platen press (one user per session)
-intaglio press (one user per session)
-C&P paper shear, nipping press, and other bindery equipment
-clean table surface for preparing paper
-large light table for preparing transparencies
*Wood shop power tools and our Janome serger may also be used with demonstration of expertise (at our discretion)
You must bring your own materials. A limited amount of materials (paper, screen print ink, some bookbinding supplies) may be purchased in the studio. One-time-use quantities of harder to access supplies such as screenprint emulsion, etching ink, and letterpress ink are available for a small additional fee.
