New letterpress type
We’ve been very grateful this week for the generosity of the friends of Levigator Press. We’ve had people bringing us paper, bookbinding materials, candy, their old phone books (print studio essentials!), a lovely pair of antique irons to use for bookbinding weights (thanks, Bev!). And tonight we drove out to the county to pick up a little cabinet of type from a barn, courtesy of our friend Julka. It’s left over from a Serbian language newspaper that used to be produced in the Ford City neighbourhood. We’ve barely had time to peek into the drawers yet, but we’re going to get a lot of good use out of this!
Rat King broadsides
Our new Rat King broadsides are printed!
Here’s an oblique shot of the precarious lockup, achieved with hope and luck and many tiny pieces of rolled up paper and mat board:
We printed some on white and some on orange:
Broadsides are 11×17″, printed on French Paper (colours: Sweet Tooth and Orange Fizz). You can get them by dropping by the studio, or wait a few days until we get them listed in the Levigator Press Etsy shop!
Private instruction
Today we had a private instruction session with some fun folks who wanted to print their own letterpress wedding invitations. They had a plate made (from a design created for them by Angie of Kindred Custom Snowboards) and, after a quick lesson, did all of the printing themselves. This couple enjoys sailing together, and their invitation has a nautical theme, printed in deep blue ink on Cranes Lettra paper. They did an amazing job!
Letterpress cards class: date change
Our Letterpress Cards class that was to start tonight has been rescheduled to accommodate student requests, so you still have some time to join! It’s two sessions, which will take place two weeks apart on Wednesday evenings, August 19 and September 2. See the updated class listing for more details: LETTERPRESS CARDS link
