Today we had a student in for a private instruction session in letterpress. She printed a small set of cards and will be back next week to do another design!

Letterpress workshop with SoCA students
This morning we had the students from Victor Romao’s Advanced Printmaking class from the School of Creative Arts, University of Windsor into the studio to set and print a collaborative broadside. It was a fun and energetic group of students and they made some great prints! Thanks Victor for bringing them out.
Today in the studio
Our friend Nicole Drouillard of Mercantile 519 visited the studio today to do a bit of letterpress printing. She’s getting ready to move to Michigan, and wanted to print up some postcards to send out to notify friends of her change of address. She made this simple print in blue and silver on four different colours of bright card stock, with tiny maple leaf and star ornaments to signify her move from Canada to the United States. Thanks Nicole!
none pass grits
Today we received a lovely gift from the former publishers of the Essex Free Press: a small selection of this gorgeous wood typeface. It’s the last bit they had left, just enough to keep printing NO TRESPASSING signs for farmers. We’re pretty sure we’ve seen a few of these signs out in the county, and we’ll be looking out for them now!
I’m sure we’ll get a lot of good use out of the many anagrams for NO TRESPASSING we can come up with:
This evening in the studio
Some private instruction clients came in tonight to print some personalized note cards for holiday gifts. Using our decorative capitals, pictured below, and luscious Cranes Lettra letterpress paper, they printed sets of 20 cards for each of about six family members in two hours! They looked so good I think I’m going to borrow their idea and make some similar notecards for a special person in my own family.
