Block printing on fabric class

We had another fun session of our most popular class last night. I’m always amazed at what people come up with, combining our wood and lino blocks into designs we would never think of. Here are some action shots:

Lino block class part 2

Michelle came in yesterday and pulled a first proof from her lino block. She’s going to clear out some of the chatter in the sky and make it more controlled, and make a few other minor changes, but it’s looking good so far!

Linoblock printing

Monica came by today to do some cutting and pull some proofs from her lino block in progress. Her image is fairly minimal linework with some nice chatter marks for texture, and she’s planning to hand colour the resulting prints.

Hard Cover Stab Binding class

Some images from tonight’s bookbinding class. Last week the students built and wrapped their covers and prepped their text blocks, and this week they drilled the sewing holes and completed the bindings.

Private instruction

invitation

Today we had a private instruction session with some fun folks who wanted to print their own letterpress wedding invitations. They had a plate made (from a design created for them by Angie of Kindred Custom Snowboards) and, after a quick lesson, did all of the printing themselves. This couple enjoys sailing together, and their invitation has a nautical theme, printed in deep blue ink on Cranes Lettra paper. They did an amazing job!

Fabric printing

We had so much fun in our Block Print on Fabric class last night. A group of four friends took the class together and that always makes it a party atmosphere! Here are a few action shots from the printing session; we’ll show you the finished fabrics once they’re dry enough to lay out for photos.

Two-colour screenprint class

A few images from tonight’s screenprinting session. We had loads of fun and the students made some really great prints.

For those of you who wanted to take this class and couldn’t make it fit your schedules, we have the next session planned for November 2 & 9, Monday evenings, from 6:30 to 9:30. This is a popular class, so you might want to register early!

Today in the studio

Alyssa was here in the studio today doing some block printing on fabric. She’s the artist who did the amazing Frida Kahlo woodcut portrait a few weeks back. Today she used a few of our woodblocks and mixed them up with some of her own lino blocks of fun little streetcars!
